Two of the bluegrass sites I go to
are reporting that Jimmy only has a
few weeks left.
He is in the hospital until a
hospice can be set up at home.
I was at bean blossom this fall and
got to see what I hope was not his
last show there.
He was still a little weak but he was
giving it all he had.
My thoughts and prayers are with
Jimmy and his family.

Larry Perkins has been with Jimmy's family. He says they brought Jimmy home yesterday. Here is a link to what Perk wrote (it's at the bottom) Jimmy's Condition (http://www.bluegrassworks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2231&sid=b3856809bb127014221de9fed75dee68)

The powers that be at the Grand Ol' Opry should do a Jimmy Martin tribute while he is still on this earth- - if there was any justice...I don't know if it would make him feel much better but I doubt it would hurt!

Its sad that they cn't forgive him for past differences and admit him. He's hands down a great performer who has drawn so many folks to bluegrass music and if passes before they pull there head outta where ever it's stuck it'll be a shame!!!!
PS this is MY opinion so don't go dogging me on it...but Im right!
I don't claim to even know the whole story behind it either but Jimmy's got more'n a little talent!

This is my opinion on the Grand Ole Opry/Nashville. Don't ever think that the powers in Nashville ever has or ever will do anything for Bluegrass. My opinion is that the IBMA move to Nashville is a SELL-OUT. Nashville and the Country Music(and I use that term loosely) don't give a hoot about Bluegrass Music much less Jimmy Martin. JM always was, is and always will be GREAT, The KING of Bluegrass. George Jones' antics didn't seem to hurt him at all. Don't get me wrong, George is great too. He and Jimmy's careers are an awful lot alike, but George was Country and Jimmy was Bluegrass. That's all I've got to say about that!!

May I respectfully suggest that these are apparently the final days of one of the best and most dedicated bluegrass artists ever...and it is really not a great time to resurrect all the old fights. I think it's a time to collectively bow our heads and wish him peace and the joy of his loved ones, and to simply thank him for all that he has been, and has chosen to be, and not to be. The other stuff will still be there later to argue about.

Thanks for listening.

Sorry for the editorializing but, I believe that Jimmy would tell you same thing and if the Opry did ask him to join, right now, he would tell them to kiss his rosy
red ---!!

Also, as to my first post, it's my impression that, unlike the Galt House in Louisville, where you could just walk in and jam all night, (no charge)in Nashville you won't get in without an arm-band (you'll have to pay to jam). And that's all I've got to say about that!!

You're probably right. And I guess, among the other things I would thank him for, would be a great sense of humor. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I would agree with J. Mark. Maybe it's just me, but I agree that this is not a time to open up old wounds. #

Aside from being an ex-Sunny Mountain Boy, I count Jimmy as a good friend. #Let's keep him and his family; Timmy, Ray, Lisa, and Buddy in our thoughts.

Best to all

Jim

It's hard not to get worked up
when you know the contributions
Jimmy has made to music and be
wronged the way he has.

Jim, I agree with the other posters on Nashville's ill treatment of Jimmy but also agree with you and Mark that this is probably not the time to get into that. Long Live the King!

...and another AMEN to that! You know, it might not make Jimmy feel better, but it would make a lot of his fans feel better.

Perhaps Jimmy's epitaph...."Who'll sing For me When I am gone, As I so oft' have done before....." - Apologies for being redoundant, but again...,may God comfort the King when he crosses The River of Jordan. Thank YOU for YOUR years of wonderful music! It has - and will continue to be - the greatest source of inspiration and motivation for me(Just my .02) - http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif

Doyle Lawson went and visited with him for about an hour. He is still not doing good and is on some special treatment which i would like to name but it slipped from my brain.
