March Tune Poll

The poll for the tune for March is up and running, and #with only a few days of Feb. to go Blackberry Blossom is off to a flying start. I voted for it last time, and again this time, as I really want to get this tune under my belt. Thanks, Roger, I think I have finally figured it all out and I'm really excited. I don't know the tune for POTT, but am struggling along, (should be working here, but what the hay, I need PRACTICE).

I printed the Monroe version of POTT from Mandozine. I can read the tab (and notation) and am figuring out the tune. But, being a very beginning player, can someone tell me the fingerings they use.

The ones I am using start with (open), #2 on 3rd string 4th fret, #3 same string 5th fret, then #1 on 1st string 3rd fret, #3 on 2nd string 5th fret and so on.

But it feels awkward moving from the top strings with fingers 2 and 3 to the higher string with finger #1.

Nora, check your posting place before posting. This is for the march one. Your looking for the POTT which is for Feb. But no problem.

I'm not much newer than you but something that REALLY has helped me is working on running scales that Bert Casey has in his Mando Primer book. If memory serves me correctly, you said you were using this book as well.

The awkwardness works itself out when your fingers get used to where the strings are and the hand eye coordination comes together.

BlackBerry Blossom would be nice, I have been working on that myself....

For march, I think a good, classic Irish tune would be a worthwhile idea, what with St. Paddy's day and all....I know I will probably spend the month working on Celtic tunes myself, as my better half and her family are very Irish indeed

I'm suprised that Blackberry Blossom hasn't been selected sooner. I've never been to a festival or jam where it wasn't the most common song being played.

For a beginer just playing the chords is a good workout and there are lots of different solos available to get ideas from.

It's a fun song to play.

I recorded Blackberry Blossom yesterday.
