Here are some pics of a recent Steven Holst (www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/) that I was fortunate to demo. It has a very nice, balanced tone - great for jazz playing.

My computer is shortening the web address when I post....?
It does work for me, though, when I click on it. Maybe I'll find another way to post the pics here.

That link worked for me and I agree - it was worth the little hassle. One of the things I love about this place is the opportunity to learn about all of these dedicated mando luthiers. That axe would match my Guild F-65CE - hmmmmm.

No - I must resist all temptation.

Thanks gents: I was nearly in need of a therapist there for a minute http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

It is truly a fine mando which I, unfortunately, don't own. The woods and workmanship are stellar, it's very easy to play, and it has this nice warm tone with great sustain.

I've been familiar with the luthier for some time, as I bought one of his archtop guitars about 6 yrs ago. He's one of those who looks on each instrument as being unique and custom. His website (www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/)has a great shop tour, showing both mandolin and guitar building.

Thanks Cahrlie,

That's a beautiful mandolin. I saw the shots of that one and the red one at Steve's site and am now having him build a custom mandolin for me. He's using mine for the shop tour as he builds it. I hope to have it in about a month.

Steve is incredible to work with. I don't know what his current lead time is but you can drop hm an email and he can tell you. Mine will work out to about 8 months from the date I placed the order. His price for a custom mandolin is excellent.

Here's a shot of the body just after he did the binding on the top.

And here's a shot of the neck.

He's building it to my specs.
