A first mandolin for me and a little brother for Tailgate Guitar. I call them "Tailgate's" because I build them on the tailgate of my truck. The mandolin was built from scratch using Stew-Mac A-5 plans.

Now all I need is to learn to play :)

That is one aggressive mandolin! I love it! A real audience pleaser....

I am fascinated why most builders who decorate their instruments do it on the back side, headstock and/or fretboard, but seldom (in modern mandolins) on the front of the body.

Thank you so much for your replies!
I'd been doing this style of marquetry for a while on other woodworking projects so it seemed like a good idea to try it with an instrument. As I've been learning I now know that I broke the rules of conventional wisdom which says that a lighter top made with a popular tonewood will produce a better sound. We shall see. The guitar sounds good so I hope the mandolin will too.
