VT - vintage tobacco burst.
A chance came about to get two one-off samples 'in the white',sold as LM-740-NF (no finish). They differ from the regular The Loar LM-700 by the rosewood headstock plate.

Preparation was done to bring up the flame and sharpen the corners. The finish is a Behlens nitrocellulose in tobacco burst.Hardware is Schaller tuning machines and EVO gold titanium fretwire. To complete will be a Cumberland Acoustics bridge, fossil mammoth ivory nut and stock The Loar tailpiece.

Very nice. If only they could do that at the factory. Let us know how it sounds.

Do you work with them or something? I've never heard of this happening. Is this a model they are going to release, or did they abandon it? Did you do the inlay too? Looks great, I'll bet it sounds great as well!

Ahhh, I see you are a dealer...

They had two pieces in the white they were going to finish but decided to let us have them and do it instead.
The inlays were thin enough to be applied under the finish without routing.
Looking forward to hearing it after set up.Will keep ye posted!

FWIW this is not an inlay. It is an overlay.

I am currently refinishing an LM-600 fixer that I picked up on ebay. Kind of suspected that the "Inlay" was done like that and chose not to refinish the headstock... So glad I didn't, it looked great anyway, and looks great with the new finish as well.

In my opinion it would be well worth the extra cost to forget about the standard tailpiece and go with the James tailpiece. Personal preference, I know.

Its strung up now and rings out full and bright with plenty sustain.A James or similar tailpiece would indeed be nice and was a consideration and may be added in the future, but the new owner has decided to go the extra on a fibreglass case instead for now.109920
