Beautiful machine! - Ken & Laura are good folks to deal with AND build a great mandolin. I'm certain you'll be happy. Thanks for sharing! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

It was made May '99. I bought it off the classifieds around Thanksgiving.

I am quite pleased with the tone and volume. It is easy to play, a feature I really need. I just got my custom ebony TRC and pickguard in today. They were literally on a slow boat from China. The pickguard is not on yet, it's bound and matches the TRC design.

I actually got two TRC's, but the second one is too small for my Gibson guitar (my fault). I'll probably put it in the classifieds if our banjo player doesn't take it. He's still mad at me for de-tuning one of his banjo strings and not telling which one it was.

Very nice mandolin, Doug. I was seriously considering ordering one of those when I came across the Bibey that I just purchased. I may yet order one from Ken.

I'm curious, where did you get that custom TRC? I like it. Who makes such things?

I emailed the inlaid artist found on ebay about doing a custom TRC and pickguard. The origional TRC was shorter than most and I was reluctant to start drilling extra holes in the peg head. After several emails we agreed on a design and price (quite reasonable). The rub is it took from December 12th until now to finally get it made and here. (mailed 2/04) The work is pretty good, a few rough edges, but overall acceptable. #

This is the other TRC I got.

BTW Mark, the Bibey is very nice.

Very nice. Good photo. I can see it's not "perfect," but then, so what, right? It's nice. Particularly as you play gospel music, it's a nice touch. If you do decide to sell that one, let me know. In the meantime, I will be contacting the artist for a few ideas of my own.

Nice. Is it ebony, or is it plastic? Isn't it tempting to put something in that scooped freatboard area? I've always wanted to do that....

P.S. Before anyone freaks out, no, I am not going to do that to the Bibey. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The pickguard is ebony. I never thought about putting something in a scooped extention. I've often wondered why more people just cut them off as opposed to scooping. Tradition I suppose.
