Great looking stuff. Could you tell us a little more about the floating tail piece.

Thanks everybody for your comments. Fingerprints and drool are completely acceptable. Arthur, I believe the vendors area opens at 4 on thursday, I don't know when they close. b.pat, the floating tailpiece is something that I have been refining for a couple of years. Basically, It has a brass plate inlayed into it which all of the hardware passes through(string posts and tail gut). I'm currently working on a way to make them adjustable in length, but as of right now they are fixed. Tonally, to my ear they warm an instrument up abit as well as increase sustain. You'll have to try one out sometime.

i had a chance to play that black top two point yesterday (thanks greg), and it is a wonderful mandolin. it reminded me of a stan miller A that i played in seattle in the 80's. hats off to mr. dean.

The tailpiece reminds me of the one on this mandolin, a Steve Owsley-Smith one from the 90s or so:
