I've been looking for a mandolin that will do a National-type tone on tape, and this fits the bill nicely...

Is this all BRW? You record on tape? So, this is a Del Vecchio with a National sound? Maybe the next one should be a National with a DelVecchio sound?

I'll see if I can whip up a little soundclip...

I really love the National RM1s, but couldn't get them to sound--like they look-- on tape... ;)
They are just too sweet sounding (but at high volume), IMHO...

Is this all BRW?

Yeah, but plywood....
(Or so I'm told).

You record on tape?

Yep.

It's just got that knarly, metallic, obnoxious tone that screams "resonator", which is the hole I was trying to fill....
It needs new strings and a little bridge adjustment, so when I get to that I'll whip up a recording...

I can understand the modern RM-1 may not sound wonderful when recorded. I have one but have not experimented much with recording it.

Oh, I think it sounds really good on recordings...
It's that it just doesn't sound like a National... ;)

That one looks quite nice! I've been on the lookout for a tenor, but most I've seen have been a bit.. rugged. I've kind of convinced myself the only way I'd ever get one was if I could play it first, which pretty much means I have to go to Brazil. I figure that's as good a reason as any!

That one really does look very cool as well. I'm usually a bit more partial to the spider bridge sound,.... but I (and others I'm sure would love to hear yours!

Very cool!
If it is anything like their guitars, it should be very lightly built with only minimal (if any) bracing. If you ever open it up, I would love to see what is inside.
