I am getting my first instrument for my birthday - an MK Firefly custom. My husband is learning the guitar and we would like to learn an easy song to play together. Does anyone have a suggestion? Needs to be easy!

What genre?
Old Joe Clark is easy, free tabs are available and most people at jams know it.

Cluck Old Hen. It is only three chords and seven notes, and every bluegrass and old time player is required by law to know it. OK, I am sort of kidding about the last part.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look for tabs for both guitar and mandolin for both songs. Learn both. Then we can play a two song set.
Genre... hmmm. I'll let the mandolin decide which genre to pursue. It will be delivered next week.
most waltzes are pretty easy (i.e. they can be played slow and still sound good). my first song was "Ashokan Farewell". it is a very gratifying first song. another is "Inisheer". it's an irish tune. very easy to play as well. the Co-Mando (http://www.co-mando.com) site offers them in the TEF file section. they have a duet version of "Ashokan Farewell". i've played this with dad on guitar, and it sounds great.
welcome to the mandolin world! have fun!!!

Almost anything by the original Carter Family can be done:
- in three chords;
- using easy-to-download lyrics;
- so that guitar and mando can swap nice simple solos.
Here are ten examples. #Enjoy.
- Will The Circle Be Unbroken?
- New Wildwood Flower
- You Are My Flower
- Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes
- Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone?
- The Gold Watch and Chain
- Jimmy Brown, The News Boy
- Life is Like a Mountain Railroad
- Keep on the Sunny Side
- I Never Will Marry

Go buy the mandolin pickers fakebook. It has all of these great (fiddle) tunes (in tab) and the guitar chords. It's lots of fun.

Try something you may already know (But don't know you know).
Like Arkansas Traveler.
