Arrow Jazzbo 5-String (2016)

Photo for Ad 149907

An excellent 5-string acoustic/electric Jazzbo mandolin in like-new condition made by Paul Lestock of Arrow Guitars & Mandolins. I commissioned this instrument directly from Paul in Jun 2016 and received it in Jan 2017. The custom sunburst finish was modeled after Maybelle Carter's Gibson L-5, but otherwise this is an entirely stock Jazzbo 5-string.

The Jazzbo has a Kent Armstrong pickup and plays well with both acoustic and electric strings for different effects. The neck is a relatively low-profile C-shape that is very comfortable to play. Notes have a very pure, fundamental tone, and it has a strong, clean tone with lots of headroom when amplified. Jazz players and fans of archtop guitars will love this instrument.

$3500 (includes original hardshell case)

- The McClung armrest, strap, and stand shown in the linked pictures are NOT included.
- There are no dings, blemishes, or any visible playwear. This has never left my home and has been stored in a humidified instrument cabinet.

Bulldog F5(Pending)

Photo for Ad 149906

2007 Barry Kratzer Bulldog. New frets, fretboard leveled, nut, bridge, etc. I had this work done by Bobby Burns and Danny Roberts. I expected to keep the mandolin. But I bought another man in last week… LOL. So much for good intentions. It a K&K dual pick up. The previous owner had it installed with the Jack coming out the side similar to an electric guitar. That was his preference????Comes in hardshell case. Asking $1525. Plenty of pictures and videos. I will be happy to answer any questions. Phone number is (423)443-five88zero. Thanks, Clint.

Gibson Fern F5 - 2015 -On Hold

Photo for Ad 149904

This is the best modern day Gibson F5 mandolin that I have played!
Dave Harvey's F5's are some of the best Gibson has made since before WWII. And this is one of his best! It is loud, clear, and beautiful! In fact the wood is so special Dave Harvey named it "Eagle Back" which is written on the included pre-pack checklist. The mandolin plays like a dream and is in EXC+ condition
Asking $6200
Trades considered for high end A model maybe boutique guitar? Cash either way.

Taggart A-Style

German BB Mandolin Repaired By A.B. Ebner 1922 (Cnd$440)

Photo for Ad 149902

**FOR SALE WITHIN CANADA ONLY**

I would guess this mandolin was crafted no later than 1910, as it does not yet exhibit the design and ornament style of the 1920s-1930s German cottage industry mandolins (major fabrication centres were Klingenthal, Markneukirchen and Mittenwald). The paper label inside the bowl says that it was repaired in yr. 1922 by Albert Benno Ebner, an "instrumentenmacher" from Muenchen, Germany. Meister Ebner (1882-1939) was apparently a luthier of some local renown, and I've managed to find a couple of his violins which have been auctioned in recent years, fetching modest prices.

This mandolin has a good rosewood fretboard, perfectly straight.
A well crafted, dainty ebony bridge with a bone saddle.
Tastefully done wood marquetry and pearl soundhole rosette, and marquetry top edging.
The bowl is made of Brazilian rosewood scalloped staves and apron.
New tailpiece as the original one was missing.
A couple of "sound vent" holes in the top.
There is a hairline unopened crack in the top, from the bass side "sound vent" hole to the tailpiece, which was cleated and perhaps glued as well. Since that is the only repair I see on the mandolin, I am inclined to assume it was done by Ebner in 1922.

The mandolin tone is warm (as opposed to metallic shrill) with some depth, reminiscent of better Neapolitan mandolins, as is the overall mandolin design (with the exception the head stock finial which is Germanic in appearance).

This sale does not include a mandolin case.

The price is CND$440 cash-and-carry, the buyer to pickup in Greater Toronto Area.
Fedex Standard (or equivalent ground) shipping anywhere in Canada is available for CND$90 EXTRA.

Returns can not be accepted except in cases of significant item misrepresentations by the seller.

** My mandolin selling credo is "Miss nothing, disclose everything". **

Gibson A2 (1924)

Photo for Ad 149899

Fabulous Loar era A2 snakehead just in on consignment. Not often do we come across instruments from this period that are so well kept. The body is in excellent structural condition, crack free with just the right amount of wear. All original aside from what appears to be a replacement bridge, even the frets have plenty of life left in them. The sound is sweet and bell like with an emphasis on the mid range, perfect for old time melodies or Celtic tunes. Setup to play with a straight neck and room to go up or down on the bridge. If you are looking for all the tone of the famed Gibson A2Z without the hefty price tag, this one delivers in spades. Priced with original hardshell case (which is also in surprisingly excellent condition).

The Gryphone Advantage: This instrument has been personally setup by a member of our repair staff. Gryphon’s sustained commitment to quality ensures that no instrument not at optimal playing condition is sold. This comes with a lifetime discount on future repair and customizations.

* * * * * * * *

Acoustic guitars, mandolins, and banjos are still the mainstays at Gryphon, as they have been for over 45 years, though our inventory of steel guitars and ukuleles continues to grow as well. In recent years an important part of our growth has been in instruments by very small companies and individual makers, as we continue to keep one foot, or at least several toes, outside the mainstream music industry.

2017 Gibson Master Model F-5

Photo for Ad 149884

David Harvey signed MM, featuring; Adirondack Spruce top, highly flamed Maple back/sides/neck, fully bound in a cremona sunburst, varnish finish. Also features a flat ebony fretboard, 1-1/16" nut width, ebony bridge, tortoise style pickguard, silver Waverly tuning machines with pearl knobs and mother-of-pearl flowerpot headstock inlay.

Excellent condition. Has a series of scratches on the scroll, perhaps from fingernail. The light varnish is easily blemished. Finish on the back is a little cloudy, but that's fairly common on this model, again a byproduct of the very thin varnish Gibson uses on the MM's. Finish has footprint from one of those useless arm rest gadgets. Frets are nearly perfect.

Includes original Loar style case and paperwork.

Please visit our website (mandomutt.com) fpr photos and additional information. Trades gladly considered. $12,999

Many Very Fine Vintage Instruments Collection Must Go

No image has been uploaded

Owner: Upload photo

Ok I thought I'd try this instead of loads of adds! I have many instruments that others may as well enjoy as I only play a few! So here they are, let me know if your serious and what ones you like info and photos, also I'll donate to the café once and if a sale happens! Please be serious and specific, Thanks You.

1935 Gibson F-12 Mandolin-all original and very rare, 1of4?

1939 Gibson F-7 Mandolin-all original and rare! 39's are the best!

1937 Cromwell G-6 Mandolin-all original and very rare, 1of7!

1935 Gibson A-50, elevated board-some David Harvey magic, the best 30's A model ever-sounds better than most F-5's of the period, no joke! Has a bit different body than the normal A-50

1935 Gibson A-50 with elevated board, has a big/different body just like the above A-50, needs neck set and fret-job.

1930-32 ViviTone electric mandolin-all original and one of the first electric mandolins by Lloyd Loar

1930-35 ViviTone Hawaiian guitar, another by Lloyd Loars company and this thing is dead mint and a true museum piece! Absolutely no wear anywear, even on the high frets!

Two Gary Vessel mandolin family instruments-awesome as Gary does some of the best work.

1958 Gibson F-5 with the Randy Wood treatment such as new neck to my specs, also a full internal re-grad and new tone bars in the correct Loar position. This thing is spectacular and will get better with play! Simply awesome F-5 for the eyes and more so for the ears!

2009 Gibson F-10 "75th Anniversary by David Harvey" old tone! Mint

1923 Gibson MB-5, very rare with all silver plating, fancy Loar A tuners engraved with pearl buttons and a silverish Loar tailpiece cover with Loar style engraving "David Harvey has never seen one like this"

Some other rare obscure 1920's Gibson instruments, just ask. Maybe a 26 Fern and a 34 Fern??? Thanks and I'll tell prices and I'll work with anyone.

1935 National Style N Mandolin

Photo for Ad 149872

(Serial No. 302) Early Style N with triangular body, single resonator and 14 frets clear of the body. Has flat F holes and a round neck with a bound rosewood fretboard. Shows some playing wear on the cover plate and a few nicks and dents, but nothing major. Original hardware and finish. Typical with Nationals, the neck has some bow in it and would need a reset to play up the neck in standard. But that not what you want this for - its very cool just like it is for slide work, especially slide blues. Think Sam Bush. Sam plays slide mandolin - check out his sound to see all the possibilities. Very loud with a unique sound. Comes with a slide and a Travelite style foam hard case. Consigned. ..USD $1450

Weber Wide Nut Bitterroot With Tobacco-Burst Pending

Photo for Ad 149864

When I purchased the mandolin, I found what I thought was a crack in the top seam; I had it checked out by a local shop; they put a mirror inside the instrument and said no worries, just a finish crack. the interior is in excellent condition.
The exterior has typical playwear, some scratches and small dings, but nothing structural. the frets have plenty of life as well.

Arm rest is included in the sale; strap is not included

Collings Mandolin MT O New

Photo for Ad 149848

Collings first started offering A models with a black tops over a dozen years ago. It's a cool look, reminiscent of early Gibson, Schutt and other mandolins from the early part of the 20th century. This MT 0 has ivoroid binding, and a gloss finish on the face as well, both upgrades from the standard MT models. The oval hole style produces a sweeter, mellower tone than the F-hole style, making it great choice for Celtic music, old-time fiddle tunes and jazz.
