Holiday Lesson Special Extended Skype Or Portland, Or

Photo for Ad 119530

Hey y'all,

I've decided to extend my holiday special through February 1st.
Jumpstart your New Year with a 4-hour-long-lesson bundle for $160. ($40 per) That's an $80 value.

I’ve been teaching mandolin and guitar lessons, seminars and workshops for 20 years in the U.S. and abroad. I love to teach. My first priority with students is to inspire you to actually enjoy practicing new skills. Any teacher can give you a pile of tunes and exercises. I’m more passionate about improving HOW you play. And more importantly, how you feel about your practice. I work to help you create the prime conditions for relaxed technique, great tone and confidence so you can sound great no matter what the style.

To get a taste of my teaching style, check out my YouTube channel here:

“From one thing 10,000 things are learned” - Zen proverb

Thanks for your interest in lessons!
Zak

Take Private Online Lessons With David Benedict

Photo for Ad 119217

Hi there! My name is David and I'm a professional mandolinist here in Cambridge, MA. I graduated from college in 2013 with a unique bachelors degree in mandolin music performance. While in school, I studied with Grammy-nominated mandolinist Matt Flinner as a core part of my curriculum. I've recorded and released two albums of my own original music. Over the years, I've had the privilege of performing on stage with such artists as Flinner, Casey Driessen, Julian Lage, Mike Marshall, Missy Raines, David Grier, Darrell Scott, Tim O'Brien, Tommy Emmanuel, Tony Trischka, and others. I now live in Cambridge/Boston, playing full time with the IBMA Momentum Award-winning bluegrass band Mile Twelve, and hosting the weekly Mandolin Monday videos series here on the Cafe.

I’ve been teaching private lessons for nearly a decade, and it would be my pleasure to help you reach your musical goals and get you to the next level in your playing ability. I specialize in teaching genres such as bluegrass, oldtime, Celtic, jazz, classical, and more. Together in our lessons, we’ll focus on establishing good technique, expanding repertoire, studying music theory, and exploring improvisation. I teach either online via Skype/Facetime or in person in Cambridge, MA. See below for more information on my lesson rates:

Single Lesson Rates: $40 per half hour lesson - $60 per hour lesson

Bulk Lesson Rates: $140 for 4 half hour lessons - $210 for 4 hour lessons

Mandolin Lessons With Don Julin

Photo for Ad 118163

Sharing what I have learned in over 35 years of playing mandolin is one of my favorite things to do. I have been on a mission to show the world that the mandolin can fit into just about any musical style and is not limited to bluegrass and Italian folk music. In my world, jazz, pop, funk, reggae, samba, rock, blues, along with bluegrass and old-time are possible on the mandolin. I accept students of all levels and I enjoy working with beginners as well as advanced players. Remember, we all started at the beginning.

I am offering private mandolin lessons via Skype/Facetime/Google Hangouts. Whether you need weekly guidance for a while or just a one time checkup, I would like to help you take your mandolin playing to the next level. I also offer one free 30 minute introductory session to get to know each other a bit, make sure the technology works, and come up with a lesson plan that fits you.

Happy Pickin'
Don Julin

This collection of lessons includes many of my favorite fiddle tunes. Most of these are common and get played often in jam sessions. Fiddle tunes are a great way for the beginner/intermediate mandolin player to build left and right hand technique. Each lesson includes:

1. A video demonstrating how to play the melody.

2. A video demonstrating how to play the chords and rhythm.

3. A Soundslice video allowing you to slow down and loop the video while staying synced to the sheet music/tab.

4. A variable speed practice track.

5. A downloadable PDF of standard notation and tablature.

Moveable Blues Licks Video Lesson

Photo for Ad 116478

This is one of my most popular video lessons. And for good reason! Bluegrass is full of blues!

Moveable Blues Licks is a downloadable video mandolin lesson that teaches you how to play 6 blues mandolin licks which can be moved all over the neck to play in any key.

These type of licks are found throughout the improvisation of bluegrass masters like Bill Monroe, the esteemed "Father of Bluegrass". Today, you will see these ideas employed by some of the modern disciples of Monroe such as Mike Compton or Ronnie McCoury. The lesson shows you how to assemble these licks in various ways to construct solos of your own.

This is one of my most popular video lessons, probably because it mentions "blues" and everybody wants to play blues! Lesson download includes the 21 minute video, a 3 page PDF with all of the tab and standard notation and 3 MP3 jam tracks for practicing what you learn in 3 keys.

Download it for $8 (Follow the link provided to watch a preview and access the list of all of my video lessons.)

Thanks,
Bradley Laird

Free Podcast From Bradley Laird

Free Podcast From Bradley Laird

Photo for Ad 115996

The free podcast for people who play bluegrass music or want to!

Do you have a daily commute and you're tired of the usual drive time radio? Make good use of that time and pick up some new ideas by listening to Grass Talk Radio. It's not a music listening show... it's talk about learning and making music!

You may already be familiar with my books and video lessons. Some things, especially the more technical side of things, are better taught in those formats but sometimes it's nice to really take some time in talking about concepts, tell a few stories, and share some experiences.

I produce this free audio show to present ideas, motivation and information to my own website visitors, students, and users of my instructional materials without the strict time constraints of video lessons.

Most of the topics are useful for anyone learning to play any style of music, but I am focused on what I personally know the most about and that is bluegrass!

I have been a student, a performer and a teacher for 4 decades and am sharing my thoughts on things for people who play mandolin, banjo, bass, guitar, reso guitar. I take some "side trips" but the show is about learning to play bluegrass and for folks who play it!

You're bound to learn some new things and look at things in some different ways. The website link will take you to the home page and from there you can listen to any episode. It's also available on Podbean, iTunes and Stitcher. Links to subscribe for any of those platforms is on the website.
