Theory & Technique w/ Bryce Milano (All Levels)

Photo for Ad 128884

Offering in-person mandolin lessons in the greater Philadelphia area, and everywhere else via Skype!

About Lessons: Lessons emphasize proper technique development, as well as comprehension and application of theory to enhance improvisational skills. Utilizing these tools, students develop the skills necessary to approach any style or piece of music they choose with confidence and facility. Other areas of expertise include: jazz theory/harmony, chord voicings, electric and octave mandolin techniques, odd time signatures, and ear training.

About Me: I'm an alumnus of Berklee College of Music, where I studied performance (jazz emphasis), as well as conducting and composition. I've been playing mandolin for 16 years, and have been teaching for the last 10. I have fairly diverse stylistic influences and, accordingly, have spent a lot of time playing bluegrass/new-acoustic, swing, classical, bebop, contemporary jazz, brazilian jazz, eastern European folk music, etc.
I was fortunate to have learned my technique from Chris Thile when I was young, but have also studied with John McGann, Christian Howes (jazz violin), and Simon Shaheen (oud). I currently work with an instrumental group called Passarinho that focuses on music from Brazil and South America: https://www.facebook.com/passarinhoband/
https://www.instagram.com/brycemilano/

Travel: If you are in the Philadelphia area, I may be able to travel to you for an additional fee (~$10/hr)

Be sure to checkout my YouTube channel for free instructional tips, and feel free to send me an email for more info or to schedule a lesson! Thanks for looking!

Student Testimonials:

"I noticed improvement in my tone and volume almost immediately. Improvement in other aspects of my playing soon followed. Bryce is an extremely talented and virtuosic player. He also has the ability to clearly communicate his knowledge to his students. This is a rare combination in an instructor and leads to rapid student progress. I highly recommend lessons with Bryce to beginning students seeking to lay a solid foundation, or to experienced students seeking to improve their playing." - Robert Clark, Ph.D.

"Bryce speaks a unique language on his mandolin that any adventurous musician will benefit from merely hearing his playing, let alone a description of the underlying theories and principles of sound production and phrasing that will inspire you to think outside of your instrument, to practice and play smarter, and to create music from knowledge and intuition." - Mike McGinn

Mandolin Lessons In Western Ma

Photo for Ad 125368

Since 1986, I have taught mainly adults (and some mature teenagers) how to play violin-family and mandolin-family instruments (violin, viola, cello, mandolin, mandola, mandocello). I also teach bluegrass guitar, and Klezmer bass.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are one hour a week. For beginners, we cover the basics in music theory, how to hold the instrument and posture, how to develop a good practice habit and learning to read. For advanced students, we learn more complicated pieces, study specific exercises and develop a practice mode for the major and relative minor scales using the Circle of Fifths tool.

Private lessons are a great way to focus on the skills you need to learn how to play the instrument you've chosen because not only are you taught how to do something specific, but you have an opportunity to ask questions and get feedback from a professional musician and music teacher. This is something you can't get from a Youtube video or a discussion forum online. Only a private music teacher can help you through YOUR specific challenges and develop a strategy for you that is tailored to your specific needs.

Guitar And Music Lessons For Kids

No image has been uploaded

Owner: Upload photo

At Kidz Create Music we specialize in teaching piano, voice, and guitar lessons. We teach the traditional pedagogical approach using the Piano Adventure books by Faber. Through their 8 level course, we are able to give our students a full understanding of music theory in terms of analysis, creativity, and expression. Our students walk away with knowledge of music as a language.

We also pride ourselves in providing an array of music categories to our students. It is important that they be introduced to styles such as classical, jazz and contemporary. But we make sure to provide a way for them to connect to songs they love. Whether that be re-writing a difficult pop song or playing a duet, it is our job to keep your child’s passion for music alive!

We provide lessons in Los Angeles as well as the following areas: West Hollywood, Brentwood, West LA, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Venice, Mar Vista, Playa del Rey and the South Bay.

Take Private Online Lessons With David Benedict

Photo for Ad 119217

Hi there! My name is David and I'm a professional mandolinist here in Cambridge, MA. I graduated from college in 2013 with a unique bachelors degree in mandolin music performance. While in school, I studied with Grammy-nominated mandolinist Matt Flinner as a core part of my curriculum. I've recorded and released two albums of my own original music. Over the years, I've had the privilege of performing on stage with such artists as Flinner, Casey Driessen, Julian Lage, Mike Marshall, Missy Raines, David Grier, Darrell Scott, Tim O'Brien, Tommy Emmanuel, Tony Trischka, and others. I now live in Cambridge/Boston, playing full time with the IBMA Momentum Award-winning bluegrass band Mile Twelve, and hosting the weekly Mandolin Monday videos series here on the Cafe.

I’ve been teaching private lessons for nearly a decade, and it would be my pleasure to help you reach your musical goals and get you to the next level in your playing ability. I specialize in teaching genres such as bluegrass, oldtime, Celtic, jazz, classical, and more. Together in our lessons, we’ll focus on establishing good technique, expanding repertoire, studying music theory, and exploring improvisation. I teach either online via Skype/Facetime or in person in Cambridge, MA. See below for more information on my lesson rates:

Single Lesson Rates: $40 per half hour lesson - $60 per hour lesson

Bulk Lesson Rates: $140 for 4 half hour lessons - $210 for 4 hour lessons
