Gibson F-4 Three Point With Tree Of Life, 1906, Rare

Photo for Ad 161696

Selling a vary rare Gibson F-4 three point mandolin with the Tree of Life inlays on the fingerboard.
Description: Factory order likely to be 283. The FON is ink-stamped on the interior sidewall, near the neck block. Serial number: 5800 â€" hand-written on paper interior guarantee label. Recent advances in Gibson scholarship indicate that this mandolin was original shipped about mid-year 1906. Gibson F-4 model mandolins from this period can exhibit some degree of customization (i.e. upgraded fingerboard and peghead inlay, pickguard inlay, etc.) and this example is no exception. It greatly resembles at least two other, more well-known 1906 F-4’s (serial number: 5437 & 5798) in that it features a tree-of-life fingerboard inlay, torch & wire peghead inlay, and moon and star pickguard inlays (all of which were factory-original options in that time period). In other respects, this instrument conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made with three-point Florentine style body, carved spruce top with oval soundhole and “Golden Orange” finish (other top finish colors were available), figured maple back and sides with red mahogany stain finish, multi-ply wood marquetry soundhole rosette with grained ivoroid center ring, tortoiseshell grain celluloid inlaid pickguard, removable non-height adjustable ebony bridge, typical metal tailpiece with “pineapple” style removable metal cover and embossed script-style “The Gibson” logo, two-piece figured maple neck with dark wood center strip and sunburst finish, Florentine style peghead shape, four-on-a-strip open-back tuners with Handel inlaid buttons, 24-fret ebony fingerboard  with treble-side extension over soundhole, single-ply grained ivoroid edge binding on fingerboard and body top and back, and nickel-plated metal hardware. No cracks or repairs to the wood. The finish has been french-polished. Comes with its original leather case.
