Griggs G28 Dreadnaught - Bluegrass Canon

Photo for Ad 150757

This is a very rare occasion, A Griggs G28 Bone for sale. Jamie Griggs says this is the only Griggs guitar to ever be put up for re-sale.. Here’s what he had to say when I purchased it from him.. “I rarely ever have a Griggs guitar up for sale but behold a used G-28 Bone with Master Grade Italian Moon Spruce top, Split Cut Adirondack braces and South East Asian Rosewood which is my favorite rosewood along with Brazilian. 1 3/4” neck 30s spacing. Its been my personal guitar for a while.”

Here’s some links of this G28. Also the master Peter Rowan playing his Griggs G18

All Master Grade AAAA woods

Master Grade Italian Moon Spruce
Master Grade South East Asian Rosewood Back and Sides
Split Cut Straight Grain Adirondack Braces
Mahogany Neck (with truss rod)
Hot Hide Glue throughout
Ebony Fretboard and Bridge
Waverly Tuners
Diamond Volute
K&K pickup
Nut is 1 3/4”
Saddle is 2 9/32” C to C

All woods are formed, shaped and sized by hand: cut, split, chiseled... No sandpaper is used in shaping, sizing,... Sanding to shape compresses fibers and dampens tone.

Styling is based on ‘34 D-28 (as is the entire guitar other than the wood species)

The only difference in the bracing, from a ‘34, is he adds a tongue brace, which is radiused. The entire top is radiused.

Jamie kept this G-28 as his showpiece guitar and lent it to pros to test drive on the road.. Most of whom ordered guitars from him. Larry Keel, Ronnie Bowman, Clay Jones, gigged with this guitar and ordered Griggs. Woody Platt, and Jon Stickley all have Griggs too... One of the upper bout braces was re-glued with hide glue and is good as new. The guitar does show play wear and the start of some finish checking. Things which, IMHO, help enhance tone..

This guitar would be upwards of $11,000 if ordered with an estimated 3 year wait..

$5500, plus shipping.. CONUS

Open to some trades.. Especially a vintage ‘46 thru ‘54 Gibson J45
