Hello Cafe friends,
If you're looking for a traditional, Loar-inspired F5 mandolin with oodles of tone and vibe, up for your pleasure is a beautiful Bruce Taggart F5, with an upgraded James mandolin tailpiece. As you can read from the many reviews, Bruce Taggart, for over 25 years, has been building some of the best traditional bluegrass mandolins and outstanding violins, and this one has all the hallmarks of his craftsmanship. I've owned mandolins built by Brentrup, Givens, Randy Wood, Girouard, Gibson and others, and this Taggart holds its own.
This F5 has the balance, easy play-ability, sustain, clarity and projection that we expect from a finely crafted mandolin. It has beautiful figured maple back and sides, an abalone truss rod cover, gold hardware, and exquisite craftsmanship. Apologies for the mediocre photo because it does not do justice to Bruce's fine craftsmanship and the beautiful woods he used for this instrument.
Steve Perry of Mandovoodoo recently did his magic to bring the mandolin up to perfection. In his words, it sounds and plays "awesome." Glad to send you more detailed photos, and a recording that highlights its tonal beauty both for lead and rhythm playing.
Priced modestly at $3200, well below market value, includes shipping in the lower 48, a sturdy Travelite-type case, and a donation to the Mandolin Cafe (thank you Scott for the many years of joy on your website).
Glad to send more photos and a recording with both rhythm and lead playing to give you a good idea of how it sounds...it records brilliantly. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your interest.
