1976 Mossman Great Plains, Beautiful 3 Piece Back $1600

Photo for Ad 141822

This is a 1976 Mossman Great Plains in excellent cosmetic and playing condition. It has a gorgeous 3 piece back similar to a Martin D-35 and the outer pieces and sides look almost like Brazilian rosewood. For those that don't know about Mossman guitars they were built by Stuart Mossman and a small group of luthiers in response to the decline in quality by the Gibson and Martin in the 70s. In general the Mossman guitars were very good flat picking guitars known for having a beautiful clear/pure tone with very good volume and punch. This guitar is a bit like a 60s D-28 on steroids but with the 3 piece back of a D-35. The label is signed by all of the luthiers that helped build this guitar including Scott Baxendale. All solid woods and made by hand. This guitar is no. 1994 made after 7 years of production.

As for condition it is as follows; the finish and tuners are original and the guitar looks great. There are no cracks and only minor scratches. It plays well, has a straight neck and working adjustable truss rod that is not set too tight and has plenty of room to lower the saddle for many years to come. The neck has been re set so there are no playing issues. The only thing less than excellent is that the bridge was shaved but the saddle slot was deepened and I put the arch back for cosmetic reasons -it was fine without it for the 7 years that I’ve owned it. For a more detailed description and pictures this guitar is also listed on ebay:

This is the best year for Mossmans because they made a structural design change to the area above the sound hole below the top. The earlier ones had a support that could break requiring a very difficult and expensive repair called “ The Agony of De Feet” but this one has the improved design. It also has a very clean original hard shell case.

I will guarantee that this guitar is as described; a 1976 Mossman with no cracks, in perfect playing condition and with the original finish, very good original frets. Payment by Paypal is okay as it offers buyer protection and I will pack it carefully. The price is $1600
