1924 Gibson TB-5 Tenor Banjo

Photo for Ad 140268

When this beautiful tenor banjo was created it was the top of the Gibson "Master Model" line, and the most ornate banjo the company had produced. The tone ring was an unique tube style, perforated with holes all the way around " the predecessor of the "ball-bearing" Mastertone which would appear in 1925.

The  neck and resonator are flame maple finished in Cremona brown, with the resonator being the renowned “trap door” style enabling the player to play with it closed, or open to obtain contrasting amounts of both tone and volume. This "Loar period" instrument is highly decorated featuring a triple-bound peg head, ornately inlaid with a mother-of-pearl "fern" motif, and a bound, extended ebony fretboard delicately inlaid with a unique pattern as well. The shell sports decorative olive green pearloid lamination around its 10.5" perimeter.

This instrument is completely original, and in excellent condition. The neck has a well-repaired heel crack which has been stable for years.

$2,450.00 with original hard shell case.
