1918 Vega Shaded Top Cylinder-Back Mandolin

Photo for Ad 137976

Here we have a terrific sounding WWI era model 202 by Vega of Boston. The unique "cylinder-back" instruments are known for their deep tones and projection. This beauty is no exception and features a spruce top in the rare traditional Vega “reverse burst” with the shaded section in the middle that becomes lighter towards the edge. The oval sound hole is bordered in ivoroid with semi-herringbone marquetry. The ebony fret board has a scale length of 14”, with a comfortable nut width of 1 3/16”. The top and back are trimmed in two layers of cream colored ivoroid  interspersed with 3 strips of alternating ebony.

This lovely example has all original parts " carved ebony bridge, tuners and bar frets. The mandolin is very clean with only a handful of tiny nicks and scratches and a small amount of pick wear. Fine condition for an instrument celebrating its 100th year.

$1,495.00 with oversized hard case
