(Serial No. 80814029) Near mint condition, sunburst finish. Top of the line mandolin for Flatiron. When Gibson went to the NAMM show in 1987, these were the high quality mandolins they were competing with. They couldn't beat them, so they bought the company. Built on the same line side by side with Gibsons, the difference between Gibson and Flatiron is the Flatiron has a different peghead name and finish color, X top bracing and a radiused fretboard with the larger frets. Excellent sounding and playing F5 scroll mandolin with highly flamed maple back, sides and neck, carved solid spruce top, Fern peghead inlay and logo in pearl, gold hardware, bound peghead, and a radiused ebony fretboard with a 1 1/8 inch nut. Original from Gibson with the larger guitar frets for easier playing. Great playing mandolin that shows no playing wear. This one has the sound - powerful chop and bark, very strong tone - excellent bluegrass mandolin. Here is a link to a video of this mandolin as played by luthier Richie Dotson here in town - This mandolin was likely built in Bozeman but it has an early Nashville label; hence there is no builders signature label. Comes with the original hardshell case...USD $5250
