2001 Martin 000-40spr Peter Rowan Midnight Moonlight - $3300

Photo for Ad 119748

This Pete Rowan 000-40SPR was one of the coolest Martin signature models ever built. The rich, mother of pearl inlays showing the phases of the moon at 3,5,7,9,12,15 & 17 on the ebony fingerboard and the moon and clouds inlay in the ebony headplate are stunning.

The 12-fret 000 body places the cool ebony pyramid bridge in the sweet spot of the lower bout. This is acknowledged as the optimal design for a steel string acoustic guitar.

The body’s double bindings, fingerboard binding, peghead binding, endwedge, heelcap and small OM-style pickguard are tortoise colored. All of the bindings are offset with cool b-w-b-w purflings. The backstrip is fine herringbone inlay.

The 45-style rosette is multi b-w-b surrounding a central, rich abalone ring.

Another unique feature of this Limited Edition is that, even though it is Mahogany, it is a 40 Martin. This, of course, get’s it a diamond volute.

This is #4 of 87 built, all original, no mods. Premium, book matched Sitka with aging toner was used for the top and the Mahogany back and sides set is impressive.

As to the overall condition of this guitar, except for some light pick marks on the pickguard itself and one light one on the finish between the pickguard and the bridge and a very light string mark on the peghead between the 3rd and 4th tuners - this doesn’t even photograph - the guitar is near mint. No marks on the back, sides top or neck. The heavy duty Geib style case - inside and out - also looks brand new.

Of course the best thing about this guitar is the way it plays and sounds. With rock your ribcage bass, well articulated mids and bell-like trebles, the sound of this guitar is exceptionally fine. With 16 years of aging on the wood combo, you simply could not ask for a better sounding steel string acoustic. Sustain is all day long.

An amazing fingerstyle guitar, the combination of a mod V-profile and 1 -13/16” bone nut - 2-5/16” at bone saddle - make for a substantial neck. Reminds me a bit of the 00-21NY and ‘53 00-21 I owned

Tuners are Waverlys. Rock solid at staying in tune.

$3300 & $60 shipping to CONUSA.
