Nashville, Tenn. — Stephen Gilchrist will be putting the finishing touches on a batch of eight Model 5 mandolins in July of 2008. These are the only mandolins he plans to offer the remainder of the year. A batch of 10 Model 1 mandolins, inspired by Gibson's oval hole A-Jr., is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2009.

The new Model 5s will feature a flowerpot peghead inlay, tone-bar bracing, Gilchrist tailpiece, silver-plated Waverly tuners, spirit varnish finish in Cremona sunburst, and Calton case. The only options are nut width, standard 1.1" or 1.19" (1 3/16") and fingerboard radius (flat or 7"). The 2008 price is $22,500.

Model 1's appointments include a red spruce top, single strut brace, ebony fingerboard, clamshell tailpiece, Elite tuners, spirit varnish finish, and hardshell case. The same options for nut width and fingerboard radius are offered. The 2009 price will be $7,000.

Christie Carter at Gruhn Guitars is now the keeper of the Gilchrist list. To reserve a Gilchrist, to confirm a place on the list, or to get more information, contact her by email at christie@gruhn.com, (615) 256-2033.
