Trossingen, Germany — The German Plucked-String Organization has announced plans for the 4th International Mandolin Symposium to be held October 1-5, 2008 at the Federal Academy of Music (Bundesakademie).
The Symposium is organised by the German Plucked-String Organisation (Bund Deutscher Zupfmusiker, BDZ) in cooperation with the Academy of Music Trossingen and the European Guitar and Mandolin Association (EGMA).
Mandolin tutors and teachers, conductors and performers, and those with a strong interest in mandolin music and the education of mandolin players are invited. It is the aim of the symposium to establish a platform for the exchange of expertise, interesting discussions and inspiring encounters.
The emphasis at the 4th Symposium is on approaches to teaching the mandolin and on "The Mandolin in International Cultural Life."
There will be many events at the Symposium including concerts, new music for the Mandolin and exhibitions. Numerous national and international specialists, well-known musicians and exhibitors are invited.
Sessions will be either in German or in English and there will be a PowerPoint presentation in the other respective language. If a presenter is talking about a topic in German, there will be an English presentation showing the content of the talk and vice versa. In addition, interpreters are available for the discussions.
