New York, N.Y. — Registration is now open for the 10th annual Carlo Aonzo Mandolin Workshop to be held March 18-21, 2010, in New York City.
Aonzo, known as one of the greatest classical mandolinists alive today, has a deserved reputation for warmth, patience, and extraordinary teaching skills. He is devoted to teaching and spreading the Italian style of mandolin ensemble playing.
What makes this event special? Other workshops expose you to several instructors and various different styles of music. This workshop provides consistent instruction and guidance from a single expert (although, one and a half hours each day are led by Linda Binder under Carlo's direct supervision).
Once your registration and payment is completed, you will receive your music and part assignments. This year's program will feature pieces by Bach, Vivaldi, Calace, and contemporary composers Jonathan Jensen and Stefano Squarzina.
Participants are expected to master the music before we come together to form an orchestra, so the sooner you register, the better. This workshop is geared to intermediate and advanced mandolinists. Mandocellists and mandolists are especially encouraged to attend!
Workshop schedule:
Thursday, March 18: Technique and Exercises (2 hours), Mandolin Repertoire (1 hour)
Friday, March 19: Mandolin Orchestra (6 1/2 hours)
Saturday, March 20: Mandolin Orchestra (6 1/2 hours)
Sunday, March 21: Mandolin Orchestra (6 1/2 hours, includes the final concert which is open to the public).
A few private lessons will be offered on Thursday before the workshop and the Monday after.
For registration questions, rates and general information, contact Chaim Caron and include the text "CAMW" in the subject line.
