That is about to change.
Valentine's Fall, a novel by Toronto-based writer Cary Fagan is set to be released and is now available for pre-order from amazon.com Canada.
In the novel, Huddie Rosen returns to Toronto after a long absence. A bluegrass musician who earned his chops in a Tennessee band, Huddie has been living and playing in Prague for a decade but has returned to Toronto to see his mother and attend the memorial of his best friend in high school.
While the novel is driven by an obsessive love story, it contains numerous passages on bluegrass history, Bill Monroe, instrument building, and on the glories of the mandolin.
Cary Fagan is an award-winning author of four previous novels, two story collections, and many books for children. His work has been published in the United States, Canada, Germany and Holland.
An avid amateur mandolin player who first picked up the instrument seven years ago, he has studied with Andrew Collins and has taken workshops with Roland White, Mike Compton, and others. He is also a long-time member of the Mandolin Cafe.
