The Classical Mandolin Society of America (CMSA) holds
it's national convention in San Diego, California,
October 8-12, 2003 at the Hilton San Diego Mission
Valley Hotel. Each year the convention is held in a
different location in North America with a regional mandolin orchestra serving as convention host. The year's host is the San Diego Mandolin Orchestra.

CMSA President Bruce Graybill has released a partial
list of performers for this year's convention which
includes: Paulo de S w/ Rio Trio, Caterina Lichtenberg (Duetto Giocondo), Richard Walz, Evan Marshall, Don Stiernberg, Uptown Mandolin Quartet, Bruce Graybill & Ray Bell, PASACAT (Philippine Music & Dance Ensemble), Michael Eskin & Boys of the Town (traditional Irish mandolins), the San Diego Mandolin Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Mandolin Orchestra. In addition to performances, these artists will be conducting many workshops, and many will be available for private lessons.

This year's En Masse orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Jim Bates, former conductor of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra. Dr. Bates currently directs the Youth Orchestra Program of the Cleveland Music School Settlement and teaches for the American School of Double Bass. The En Masse Orchestra is expected to have as many as 150-200 participants.

The CMSA convention is the largest gathering of Mandolin players in North America. In addition to performances of Classical, Jazz, Bluegrass, Celtic, and Choro, there will be an opportunity to join the artists in workshops given for many different musical styles.

Registration forms and additional convention information including membership applications are available from the CMSA Convention web page.
