Rockville, Md. — Frank Solivan II will hold a beginner/intermediate mandolin workshop on March 22, 2008, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at 409 N. Stonestreet Ave. (Patuxent Recording Studio).

The workshop fee is $45 and students should bring their mandolin, a recording device (for future reference), and/or pen & paper, and an aspiration to learn how to play better.

This hands-on workshop will touch on traditional bluegrass songs, fiddle tunes, swing standards, jazz, and country classics. An in-depth study of fundamentals—hand placement, plectrum control, chords, scales, arpeggios, and fingering patterns—will help students to mentally map their instrument.

Students will use these tools to build musical solos, learn and play faster, improve tone, and enrich the melodies they already know. Everyone will walk away with a handout referring to topics covered, and a better knowledge of their instrument.
