Mandolin Camp North

Groton, Massachusetts — Mandolin Camp North (MCN) will be held here on the grounds of a beautiful campsite April 25-27, 2008.

This experience offers mandolin instruction in a group setting for those just learning and those who have been playing for many years and want to improve their skill level.

This year MCN welcomes mandolin virtuoso Radim Zenkl, a U.S. Mandolin Champion on the cutting edge of mandolin's future.

January 18, 2008 update to article: John Reischman and Ben Pearce have been added to this year's staff.

Returning staff includes nationally known and local mandolin teachers Rich DelGrosso, Dave Surette, Skip Gorman, Richie Brown, Phil Zimmerman, Neil Rossi, Alan Kaufman, Dave Reiner, Mike Rivers, and Mike Holmes, Camp Director.

What sets MCN apart from other teaching camps is the relaxed atmosphere and easy accessibility to the teachers. Students and teachers dine together giving both an opportunity for informal conversation, and teachers play in jams with students—not separately.

Other features of MCN are the guided jams for beginner, intermediate and advanced players and one-on-one tutoring at the Help Desk. Classes are designed to reinforce individual skills as well as give students the opportunity to play together in bands. Each evening after dinner there is a staff concert followed by the jams late into the night.

Tuition includes instruction, meals (dinner on Friday, three meals on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday), and accommodations in comfortable heated cabins. The camp is set on a lake and weather-permitting, canoing or boating is available.

There is a $50 discount for early registration no later than January 31, 2008.

Camp is limited to 150 students and registrations are accepted on a first come first served basis.

NOTE: all camp activities including jam sessions are restricted to student campers and are not open to the general public on a drop-in or walk-up basis.
