Charlottesville, Virg. — Orrin Star will be offering a "Mando Workshop Day" on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the 214 Arts Community Center (former home of the Prism Coffeehouse) at 214 Rugby Road.

He will also be performing there the night before at 8:00 p.m.

1:00-3:15 p.m. - Rhythm Mandolin

Rhythm is a vital yet seldom focused-on aspect of mandolin playing. This workshop will cover a broad spectrum of approaches, from 'chopping' on the off-beat in a bluegrass ensemble to accompanying a fiddler or or singer with open chords, jamming on a reggae tune to playing a country ballad.

4:00 - 6:15 p.m. - Making Your Mando Sing: Lifestyles of the Licks Contagious. Utilizing the classic song "New River Train", this workshop details how to transform a simply melody into a full-sounding solo by adding harmonized notes and strums to your leads. It also introduces some essential end-of-phrase licks that can make a solo really jump.

Workshops limited to 12 participants, include written hand-outs, and cost $45.
