John McGann Artist In Residence at The Music Emporium

Lexington, Mass. — John McGann will be an Artist in Residence at The Music Emporium in May, 2007 offering a mandolin workshop on May 10 and guitar workshop on May 31.

The mandolin workshop will include the following information:

Stepping up Your Rhythm Playing: all levels welcome, custom geared to participant level.

- Celtic "textural" accompaniment
- Partial chords, drones
- 6/8 and 4/4 time

Improvisation 101: all welcome, geared towards intermediate and up.

- Melodic variation on a Celtic tune
- Melodic variation on a Jazz tune
- Playing through the changes vs. over the changes Building a solo chord-melody arrangement to: Over the Rainbow

John McGann is Associate Professor in the string department at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, a Mel Bay author and former national mandolin and guitar flatpicking champion.
