Django in June!

Django in June!

Northampton, Mass. — Django in June, New England's premier occasion to celebrate the music of Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt will be held June 12-17, 2007 on the campus of Smith College.

In addition to weekend workshops on guitar, violin, mandolin, accordion and bass, 2007 will host the first full-fledged "music camp" devoted to Gypsy jazz.

The instructor for the mandolin section will be John McGann, Associate Professor in the string department at the Berklee College of Music in Boston where, among other things, he teaches the Django class.

According to camp director Andrew Lawrence, Django in June is the only gypsy jazz event in the country that is actively encouraging mandolin players to claim this tradition as their own, something that may over time prove to be a uniquely American contribution to the genre.

In addition to the workshops, concerts will be held on June 15-16, 2007.
