A Mandolin Symposium
David Grisman, Chris Thile and Mike Marshall have announced a Mandolin Symposium - the Art of Mandolin, to be held August 1-6, 2004, at the University of California, Santa Cruz, California. The web site for the event launched January 1, 2004.
Attendees will experience five full days of mandolin classes, seminars, demonstrations and performances by world-class, master mandolinists. Additional assistance will be provided by associate instructors Don Stiernberg, Radim Zenkl, and Mike Compton.
Beginning, intermediate and advanced sessions, designed to accommodate players of all ages, will be offered daily. In addition, a music appreciation class will be held each day, as well as elective classes in a variety of musical styles and disciplines. Master classes will afford advanced mandolinists the opportunity to participate in one-on-one sessions with David Grisman, Mike Marshall or Chris Thile.
Instruction will cover in-depth explorations on a variety of mandolin styles and techniques, including bluegrass, jazz/swing, classical, Celtic, Latin and Dawg music.
The Mandolin Symposium will be held at the campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Registration includes tuition, campus apartment housing, and all meals.
