Ken Cartwright of Cartwright's Music in Stayton, Oregon said he was startled when his security service called at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning to report alarms at his place of business.
"In all the years of owning the store I've never had anyone break in so I was literally scared to death as I drove down to the store to see what tripped the alarm."
After staying out late playing music with friends, Cartwright said he did a double-take as he coasted to the rear of the store with his car lights out.
"There on top of the store was a sleigh with reindeer. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things. Inside I caught of glimpse of a man in a red suit and beard moving about. I wasn't absolutely sure what he was doing in there but I had a pretty good idea. I slowly backed away and drove home. I think I barely slept the rest of the night"
The next morning Cartwright said the store, particularly the mandolin section was in disarray. The store security camera caught it all.
"Heck, I don't mind the old guy played them all I guess. I suppose they don't have many on the North Pole, but you'd think he'd leave them tuned. And then there were all those messy finger prints to be wiped off. He spent a lot of time in here.
Oh well," Cartwright sighed. "It's not every day that Santa Claus pays a visit to the store. Next time I hopes he comes during the day so we can play a few tunes."
Local police reported that Cartwright has no intention of pressing charges.
