Grand Targhee Bluegrass Camp

Grand Targhee Bluegrass Camp

The First Annual Grand Targhee Bluegrass Camp will be held August 9-11, 2006, in Driggs, Idaho and will proceed the Targhee Bluegrass Festival. Mandolinist Ben Winship serves as the camp coordinator and mandolin instructor.

Located at the Grand Targhee Resort, the setting will be ideal for getting away from the real world and spending time in the mountains picking and singing.

Instructors include Tim Stafford on guitar, Matt Flinner on banjo, Brian Wicklund on fiddle, Ben Winship on mandolin, Eric Thorin on bass and John Lowell on songwriting.

Using bluegrass music as the common language, the camp will focus on teaching individual instrumental skills and on group playing and jamming. Each day will feature morning and afternoon classes on your chosen instrument, elective workshops, jam sessions (both structured and unstructured) and evening performances.

In addition, students will have opportunities to take advantage of the wide range of outdoor activities that Grand Targhee has to offer: including hiking, biking, tennis, swimming, chair lift rides and more. Grand Targhee is situated at 8000 feet in the heart of the Tetons - an inspiring setting with spectacular views.

Offerings for this summer's camp will include guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, bass and songwriting. The classes will be geared towards intermediate and advanced players, so some degree of proficiency is expected. Grand Targhee Bluegrass Camp welcomes students of all ages, however students 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The registration fee includes 3 days of meals and lodging. Arrival time is Tuesday, August 8, 2006, with classes beginning Wednesday morning and concluding Friday afternoon. For additional information, please write to bluegrasscamp@benwinship.com
