Acoustic Outfitters Music Shop of Stratham, New Hampshire will host a David Surette mandolin workshop on June 11, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Attendees will learn several traditional reels and jigs from New England and the British Isles, as well as an old-time Appalachian breakdown. Surette, a patient and experienced teacher, will teach the basic tunes, as well as the ornaments and rhythmic additions that help to bring the tunes to life.

You'll also work on tune accompaniment and the basic elements of these particular styles. Written music/tablature will be provided. This workshop is suitable for more experienced beginners, intermediates, and advanced players.

David Surette is highly regarded throughout New England and beyond for his work on the guitar (both flatpick and fingerstyle), mandolin, and bouzouki. He plays regularly with Susie Burke, with Rodney Miller and Airdance and as a soloist and has recorded in all these configurations.

His most recent release, Northern Roots, is a collection of traditional New-England based music that has drawn strong praise. His diverse repertoire includes traditional American roots music, Celtic and contra tunes, original compositions, bluegrass, blues and ragtime, and folk music from a variety of traditions, all played with finesse, taste, and virtuosity. He is also an experienced teacher, and teaches regularly at Acoustic Outfitters and the Concord Community Music School.
