NOTE: this event has been cancelled by the event organizers.

Join world-renown Bebop/Texas Swing artist Paul Glasse for a two-hour workshop in the Sheldon Art Gallery Auditorium, University of Nebraska Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska, 12th & R streets on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Workshop times are 10:00 AM to 12 noon.

Paul will cover basic mandolin tips and techniques as well as simple and intermediate jazz skills. Mandolinists of all abilities and friends are welcome to attend this free event, graciously underwritten by Rigel Mandolins with support from the Sheldon Art Gallery of Lincoln, Nebraska, JazzMando.com and the Mandolin Cafe.

A decade-long success at national picking contests in the 1980s, Glasse has been a long time contributor to the vibrant music scene in Austin, Texas ever since. Having studied intensely with the great mandolin masters of swing, Jethro Burns, Johnny Gimble and Tiny Moore, he embodies a rich legacy and tradition while pioneering new ground for the instrument in Bebop music and a fresh jazz terrain for the instrument.

And that's not all; come to the free evening concert, too! Later that evening, he will be guest soloist with the critically acclaimed Nebraska Jazz Orchestra as part of Lincoln's regional concert series "Jazz in June." The 7:00 PM outdoor concert series on the beautiful Sheldon Art Gallery grounds is free to the public, and has been known to draw over 6,000 in attendance. Come early, bring a lawnchair or blanket and enjoy a refreshing evening of jazz.
