FRANKLIN, TN - Naxos World is proud to announce the release of Gypsy Swing featuring the Madison, Wisconsin based group Harmonious Wail. The gypsy swing genre was pioneered by Django Reinhardt and the repertoire on this recording is reminiscent of his distinct style, with smoldering vocals laced among the jazzy mandolin and guitar. Harmonious Wail brings this exemplary recording of gypsy swing to world music audiences everywhere.

Gypsy Swing features well-known standards such as Minor Swing, Sheik of Araby, I'm Always Chasing Rainbows, and St. Louis Blues. Harmonious Wail founder and leader Sims Delaney-Potthoff studied for seven years under Jethro Burns and cites among his other influences Reinhardt and his cohort Stephane Grappelli, as well as David Grisman and Louis Armstrong. Along with vocalist Maggie Delaney-Potthoff and guitarist Tom Waselchuk, Harmonious Wail has achieved an immense local following and has received strong praise throughout the Midwest.

Gypsy Swing marks the 18th release from Naxos World, the world music imprint of classical label and distributor Naxos. The label will release 12 titles in 2003, and has plans to be able to stock an entire world music section with representative recordings from all corners of the globe.
