Santa Cruz, Calif. — The Mandolin Symposium celebrates its twelfth year of bringing together instructors and students from around the globe to study the mandolin and its music at the beautiful campus of the University of Santa Cruz in California, June 22-26, 2015.

Led by David Grisman and Mike Marshall the week-long event features daily music appreciation sessions, over 50 elective classes, daily ensemble rehearsal sessions and evening performances. This year the Mandolin Symposium will present a special Wednesday night Concert open to the public, "David Grisman and Mike Marshall present a Mandolin Extravaganza," with all the Instructors.

The week ends Friday with the Symposium Finale with performances by students, instructors and the Mandolin Symposium Orchestra. Tickets and Information can be found at the link below.

In addition to Grisman and Marshall, this years faculty just added Brazilain Choro Master Dudu Maia from Brazil to spend the week with our 2015 staff which includes Roland White (Bluegrass), Don Stiernberg (Swing and Jazz Master), Caterina Lichtenberg (Classical), Drew Emmitt (JamGrass), Dudu Maia (Brazilian Choro), Rich DelGrosso (Blues), Sharon Gilchrist (Mandolin Fundamentals), Tim Connell (Irish, Improv), and Eric Stein (Klezmer).

The Mandolin Symposium is full of surprises and often includes guests brought in for part of the week to address specific styles or techniques. Past guests have included Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, Tim O'Brien, Ricky Skaggs, Marla Fibish, Radim Zenkl, Frank Solivan, Mike Mullins and Eric Thompson.

Luthier Lynn Dudenbostel returns with his extremely popular repair shop, which is part master-craftsman-shop, part front porch. Lynn generously donates the proceeds from repairs done all week to the Symposium scholarship fund.

The Mandolin Symposium takes place at the Porter campus of the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Registration is open and on-campus housing is still available. Contact Stephen Ruffo at (360) 385-6836 or by email for your application and further information.

I went a few summers ago... what a fantastic hang! So many great teachers and players, great concerts by the instructors everyday and the now legendary morning "music education" classes. Everybody should go at least once, even if you just go to play and party!
