Bloomington, Ind. — Jim Richter, Kimble Mandolins and Grant Street Inn present the 2014 Jim Richter Mandolin Camp for the Rest of Us, July 24-26, 2014 at the historic Grant Street Inn.

The Mandolin Camp for the Rest of Us camp, now in its fourth year, focuses on rock and blues styles as well a unique educational approach with this year's special guest instructor, acclaimed performer, educator, and composer for mandolin, Don Julin. Don offers good humor, an engaging teaching style, formidable musical knowledge, and incomparable technique which will provide a wonderful new layer to this camp experience.

Besides rock and blues mandolin styles, this camp focuses on deconstructing the barriers that keep each of us from being the most creative and productive on our mandolins.

The camp does not subscribe to beginner-intermediate-expert labeling, especially self-labeling, as its felt it undervalues or devalues the mandolinist. Creativity and ability are both spectrum-based, free of artificial levels and competition.

There will be concurrently held special topic classes on blues, jazz standards, and others determined by suggestions from a survey of registered attendees. Twenty minutes of individual instruction is now a standard part of the camp.

A faculty concert will be held the evening of July 26. Jim Richter and Gordon Bonham will perform blues and folk/rock standards. Don Julin and Billy Strings will be performing old time duets with a punk/high energy attitude.

Cost: Tuition for the workshop is $185. This covers camp instruction, printed materials, individual instruction, and the faculty concert. It does not include dining or lodging.

Housing: The Grant Street Inn is the center of activities. The Inn is offering the discounted rate of $119 plus tax per night. Please do not contact the Inn except for housing arrangements.
