Carlo Aonzo & René Izquierdo - Paganini
Italian mandolinist Carlo Aonzo and Cuban-American guitarist René Izquierdo have released an album of duets by Genoese composer Niccolò Paganini.
The repertoire for the recording was chosen to evoke the atmosphere of intimate concerts in which Paganini himself enjoyed using the mandolin and guitar combination.
Carlo Aonzo, a native of Savona, Italy, followed the family tradition of studying mandolin first with his father, then with Ugo Orlandi at Padova's Conservatory of Music. He founded and conducts the Italian Mandolin Academy Orchestra and regularly performs and tours all over the world. In 2006, he set up the International Mandolin Academy to promote the Italian mandolin tradition and he teaches several music courses in Europe and the USA including his annual Manhattan Mandolin Workshop in New York.
René Izquierdo is currently a professor of classical guitar at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. As a concert artist, René has performed throughout the world, receiving wide critical acclaim for his performances. He is recognized as one of America's classical guitar virtuosos, having won numerous awards and competitions and shared the stage with many prestigious musicians.
Aonzo and Izquierdo will embark on a short U.S. tour in late May in celebration of the release of the recording. Dates for their tour can be found on Izquierdo's web site.
