Sergio Lara - Guitars & Mandolins
Sergio Lara has announced the release of his newest solo recording, Guitars & Mandolins. On the album Sergio plays all instruments including mandolin, acoustic and Spanish guitars and banjo.
The new recording includes many old traditional tunes called "Corridos" made popular in the early 20th century during the Mexican Revolution (1910) like La Adelita, La Valentina and La Cucaracha. Also included are some of the well known American fiddle tunes like Wayfaring Stranger, Red Hair Boy, Old Joe Clark and many more.
Some of this string band music was originally played by rural people, some of the first real "Vaquero" music from around the Mexico/Texas border, from the times before bluegrass music and even before Robert Johnson's blues recordings, popular during an era when music was played in parlors and around the campfire.
Selections:
La Valentina
La Rielera
Wayfaring Stranger
Carabina 30-30
La Adelita
Red Hair Boy
La Cucaracha
El Rancho Grande
Old Joe Clark
La Martina
Dusty Miller
Las Mañanitas
