ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass - School of Mandolin with Mike Marshall

ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass - School of Mandolin with Mike Marshall

The ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass and Mandolin Cafe are set to give away five (5) 3-month subscriptions to Mike Marshall's School of Mandolin during November. Giveaway registration will commence on the Mandolin Cafe Forum starting Tuesday, November 15 and winners will be selected on Wednesday, November 23.

No purchase is necessary. Eligibility for the giveaway is limited to members of the Mandolin Cafe Forum, membership which is open to the general public (Registration). Each 3-month subscription has a value of $90.

The School of Mandolin with Mike Marshall is part of the ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass and offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced mandolin players access to one of the most comprehensive curriculums, as well as a number of interactive social features. Every student at the mandolin school has the opportunity to send a recorded video of themselves practicing and receive personal video responses from Mike with individualized instruction on how to progress.

Speaking about the creation of the mandolin content, Mike Marshall said, "I started with the absolute basics and marched through an entire mandolin curriculum that reaches pretty advanced subject matter. There are hundreds of short, concise videos the student can work through that are appropriate to their level. It's a massive amount of content and I think what we've created for mandolin students is as comprehensive as anything that's out there.

"Part of what makes the Academy unique is that students interested in personalized feedback and instruction (though not mandatory) can use ArtistWorks' Video Exchange System to upload a video of themselves playing and then the instructor provides a critique back by video. Student and instructor videos are available for viewing by all mandolin enrollees so it's similar to a public master class.

"There's also a forum where mandolin students can interact with students of other instruments in the entire School of Bluegrass so it's really a comprehensive educational environment."

The ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass also includes Tony Trischka (banjo), Darol Anger (fiddle), Bryan Sutton (guitar) and Missy Raines (bass), who all give personalized instruction online using innovative Video Exchanges.

I just have a quick question that's probably pretty stupid. I understand the Academy is a Bluegrass thing (duh!). But would it be worth it to enter even if you're not that interested in playing specifically Bluegrass?

I too don't play much bluegrass (if at all) but, I believe there is a great deal of useful information in these lessons for any style of music. I don't see how it court hurt.

Yes, Mike welcomes other types of music. He invites users to post other than bg for his help if they would like. A lot of the lessons would be usable in other music besides bluegrass.

Mike is a fantastic teacher and as we know a world class player. You can throw anything his way and he'll respond with loads of useful information and technique.

He has a great ability to teach to the level of the student offering the right amount of encouragement yet always raising the bar.

There is a movie called "Crossroads" I think. Player in a school for Classical music but wanted to play R&R. When came time to play against the devil... Classical training helped him win. I play mostly Christian music and believe that anything I can learn will improve my playing. Would love to have this chance.
