The Goat Rodeo Sessions

The Goat Rodeo Sessions

Sony Masterworks is slated to release The Goat Rodeo Sessions, an ambitious and uniquely American acoustic music recording on October 24, 2011, featuring Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer. Joining the ensemble is female vocalist Aoife O'Donovan.

While each musician is a renowned superstar in his own music sphere, they have come together now as a unified ensemble on a most remarkable and organic cross-genre project stemming from their friendship, and the title concept.

Goat Rodeo as defined from the Urban Dictionary: A chaotic situation, often one that involves several people, each with a different agenda/vision/perception of what's going on; a situation that is very difficult, despite energy and efforts, to instill any sense or order into.

The Urban Dictionary also offers this definition as quoted by Thile in regard to the project: ...about the most polite term used by aviation people (and others in higher risk situations) to describe a scenario that requires about 100 things to go right at once if you intend to walk away from it.

Selections:
Attaboy
Quarter Chicken Dark
Helping Hand
Where's My Bow?
Here and Heaven
Franz and The Eagle
Less is Moi
Hill Justice
No One But You
13:8

I am so looking forward to this disc. Thile has done many things, the escalation of his music incorporating classical arrangement with marked improvisation is truly a bellwether for musicians in the future.
