The Loar LM-500

The Loar LM-500

Hayward, Calif. — The Loar is proudly celebrating the reissue of their best-selling LM-500 Golden Age Mandolin. The design elements pay homage to classic Golden Age styling, but has been updated to reflect the interests and needs of modern players.

As part of the reissue, The Loar is combining efforts with the Mandolin Cafe to give away one of these remarkable mandolins to a lucky individual to be chosen on the Mandolin Cafe web site October 1, 2011.

Registration for an opportunity to win the LM-500 will commence on the Mandolin Cafe on September 1, 2011. No purchase is necessary to participate and registration is open to all visitors to the site, regardless of location.

In addition to the mandolin shown here, the winner will also receive a hard-shell case and two The Loar ball caps.

The Loar LH-500-VS is hand-assembled in The Loar design studios, home of the game-changing LM-600 and LM-700 mandolins. They've replaced the original LM-500 pressed top and back with a hand-carved solid spruce top and hand-carved figured maple back and sides.

The fretboard extension has been scooped, allowing players to position the pick closer to the neck joint, so they can find the mandolin's "sweet spot" without fear of the pick hitting against the higher frets.

The LM-500's aesthetics have been modernized also, including an all-new "Fleur-de-Lys" style headstock inlay for a more contemporary look. A one-piece figured maple neck, bound ebony fretboard, Grover tuning machines and an ebony bridge round out the list of impressive features on this beautiful mandolin. The all-new LM-500-VS has an MSRP of $799.99.

As a survivor of a traumatic brain injury, much a gift will help me re-wire my brain. Learning now to handle & play a good instrument would be much better then my cognitive therapy which still goes on.

I've been a keyboard player for 22 years, and have been learning the Mandolin for the last 2. This website has been very helpful in finding and learning songs that have enabled me to learn the instrument and become a little bit better

If by chance I would win this beauty I would let my students play it while they are taking lessons and surely some of them would purchase one of The Loar mandolins when they feel like they are "accomplished mandolin pickers"

I wonder if they will look favourably on players stuck in darkest Africa who have to ride on camelback for three days to get to the dhows to take me to the airport to get on the plane to collect the prize...might as well buy one...smile) I'll have a go anyway...
