8th Annual Mandolin Symposium with your hosts Mike Marshall and David Grisman
Santa Cruz, Calif. — June 26 - July 1, 2011 on the campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz, the 8th Annual Mandolin Symposium brings together the finest instructors and students in the mandolin world for a week of intensive study.
Guided by David Grisman and Mike Marshall, The Mandolin Symposium is a curriculum rich week focused entirely on the family of mandolin instruments. The 2011 faculty to-date includes Don Stiernberg, Andy Statman, Chris Acquavella, Eric Thompson, Mike Compton and Marla Fibish.
Lynn Dudenbostel will run his mobile repair shop all week offering an exceptional opportunity for set-up and repair of your fine instrument.
Each day includes Music Appreciation sessions, two elective periods, an ensemble rehearsal and an evening concert followed by hosted, late-night jams. The week ends with a concert at the University featuring students and faculty alike. With an increased commitment to hands-on experiences, students will be challenged to think, discover, improve and walk away with a year's worth of work.
The Mandolin Symposium website will be featuring a series of great video clips through April and May. Come back every few days for something new! These videos are typical of materials shown and discussed during Music Appreciation sessions. You will also find registration, schedule and curriculum details at The Mandolin Symposium website.
