Brisbane Calif. — The Loar has announced the creation of the LM-400, a tribute to classic mandolin design techniques and new hand-carved model from the luthiers at The Loar Hand Carved Workshop.
The LM-400 features a nitrocellulose finish, hand-carved and hand-graduated solid spruce top and flamed Maple back and sides, and abalone/mother-of-pearl fern headstock inlay, assembled with a one-piece, rounded v-profile flamed maple neck and bound rosewood fretboard, compensated ebony bridge and vintage-style tuners.
The nitrocellulose lacquer is thinly sprayed on the vintage sunburst finish and then hand-buffed for a finish that is beautiful and lets the voice of the instrument speak clearly.
The bone nut and ebony bridge allow for the sustain that professional players look for in a high-quality hand-assembled mandolin.
The LM-400 adds to The Loar's existing line of LM-600 and 700 F-style mandolins.
The Loar line of mandolins will be on display for viewing at the member-only National Association of Music Manufacturers (NAMM) show in Anaheim, California, January 14-17, 2010.
