Frank Wakefield

Bluegrass mandolin legend Frank Wakefield will be making a rare tour of Northern California this month. Playing with Frank will be a stellar band of California-based musicians, including his longtime band mate Jim Lewin (guitar, vocals), Jim Mintun (dobro, vocals) and Louise Mintun (acoustic bass, vocals).

The band will be performing bluegrass favorites and many of Frank's original vocals and instrumentals including selections from his recently released CD Ownself Blues from Patuxent Music.

A native of Emory Gap, Tennessee, Frank began his musical career in Dayton, Ohio in the early 1950s with Red Allen.

Ever since the release of his first original tune, "New Camptown Races" in 1953 at the age of nineteen, Frank has developed a unique style of playing that has influenced a new generation of musicians.
