Gilchrist Model 1 Mandolins
Nashville, Tenn. — In 2008, Gruhn Guitars announced their role as U.S. representative for Stephen Gilchrist mandolins based in Australia. Gilchrist has started a new batch of sixteen Model 1 style and a few Model 5 mandolins and Gruhn is now accepting orders for these fine instruments with an anticipated delivery date of January, 2010.
The Model 1 mandolin is inspired by Gibson's oval-hole "snakehead" A-Jr. model of the 1920s.
Features include:
Red spruce top
Single strut brace
Ebony fingerboard
Clamshell tailpiece
Elite tuners
Spirit varnish finish
Calton case.
The only available options are nut width - 1.1" (1 1/8") or 1.19" (1 3/16") - and fingerboard radius (flat or 7"). The 2010 Model 1 price is $7,500.
The Gilchrist Model 5, inspired by the Lloyd Loar F-5, is offered with the same options at a price of $22,500.
