Fifth Annual Midwest Mandolin Festival

Indianapolis, Ind. — The Fifth Annual Midwest Mandolin Festival, presented by the Mandolin Society of Central Indiana will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009, 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eagle Creek Park, Marina Stage.

Enjoy a day outdoors with acoustic mandolin music, including old time, traditional, jazz, blues, contemporary, Celtic, progressive, orchestrated, and bluegrass music by regional performing artists. Enjoy seating in the surrounding grassy area with a picnic lunch. Come rain or shine—if it is raining that day, it will be held indoors at the Earth Discovery Center in the park.

There will also be 2 free mandolin workshops, one beginner level, taught by Jon Hall and Myra Dworski, and one intermediate to advanced level, taught by Jim Richter. Free with paid admission to the park ($5.00/car). The following are confirmed to perform:

Jim Richter (Blues)
The Sloes (Progressive acoustic)
Slates Family Band (Down home music served up family style)
il Troubadore (Indy's 16th century rock band)
Mike Butler and the Yank Rachell Tribute Band (Country Blues)
Mark Kurkowski and Mario Joven (Jazz)
Norman Conquest (Mandolin ensemble specializing in ethnic music)

The following day, Don Julin will be teaching a mandolin workshop in Indianapolis.
