John Skehan & Todd Collins Perform Mandolin Duets of Emanuele Barbella

John Skehan & Todd Collins have released a new recording entitled John Skehan & Todd Collins Perform Mandolin Duets of Emanuele Barbella.

Todd Collins is a professor of music at County College of Morris, in Randolph, New Jersey and an author of several mandolin books and conducts mandolin workshops nationally and abroad.

John Skehan tours extensively with the band Railroad Earth and has performed at many of the finest bluegrass and acoustic music festivals in the country.

Emanuele Barbella was born 1710 in Naples and died there in 1773. He composed one opera, Elmira Generosa, numerous works for two and three violins, and a variety of pieces for two mandolins. Barbella was a prominent violinist, as was his father Francesco Barbella.

While Emanuele Barbella wrote predominantly for the violin, several of his works for mandolin were published by Gabriele Leone. Leone, a London based music publisher, was the author of a widely used mandolin tutor, a composer of music for mandolin, and one of the most renowned mandolin performers of the Eighteenth century.
