The Vega company of Boston, Massachusetts is considered the premier builder of the cylinder-back mandolin. They also built bowlback and flatback mandolins. Vega distributed their mandolin line instruments between approximately 1913 and 1925.

The Vega company was in operation between the early 1880s and through the 1970s at which point it was purchased by the C.F. Martin Company of Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
