After leaving Gibson, Lloyd Loar started the ViviTone company with the purpose of producing pianos and stringed instruments, including guitars and mandolins.

One result of this effort was the ViviTone mandolin, available in both acoustic and electric versions.

The acoustic mandolin model pictured here did not receive a favorable reaction from the public and not many are known to exist.
